The Town of Gander and the Gander Minor Hockey Association are lacing up their skates for a charity hockey game in support of Jamie Cokes, a beloved member of the Town of Gander and a coach with minor hockey.
Jaime is a long time volunteer with GMHA - as a coach, executive member, past president and most recently, a coach for a U13 team based out of Twillingate, made up of players from Gander, Twillingate and Green Bay South.
With seven days notice, Jamie recently had to stop work with the Town of Gander and begin a six month journey of chemotherapy due to Follicular non Hodgkins. You can imagine the stress, mentally and financially, this has caused his family.
When his oncologist told him that he had to stop work, his first question was if he could still coach hockey. Jamie’s love for the game and our players is second to none. He’s given so much of his time to our organization, it’s time for us to come together as a hockey community and show him how much he’s appreciated.
Let’s fill the barn next Thursday March 27 at 6pm as we host a fun game of hockey between Town of Gander employees vs GMHA members with special guests from the U13 team Jamie coached this year.
Admission is by donation (let’s show Jamie’s family some love ). There will be a ticket table with some prizes and Chuck a Puck. Hope to see you all there!!
